Overview
He is highly skilled in all phases of litigation, possessing significant legal, pragmatic, and strategic experience acquired by representing clients in their most important and extensive lawsuits. Matt has litigated high profile and complex civil matters, including wrongful death, catastrophic injury cases, and “Bet-the-Company” litigation. These matters have included multi-jurisdictional matters, coordinated proceedings and class actions throughout Ohio as well as across the country. Matt regularly represents clients in the areas of commercial litigation, employment litigation, employment matters, insurance matters and white-collar criminal matters.
As a prosecutor, Matt tried hundreds of cases, including 85 cases that led to successful jury verdicts. He then successfully argued and sustained convictions in the Court of Appeals. As a prosecutor, Matt also was selected to lead three large-scale investigations that included thousands of potential witnesses, hundreds of grand jury witnesses. These investigations led to significant felony convictions, multi-million-dollar financial settlements for the County, and the passage of ORC § 2901.13 (A)(3).
Matt is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), which allows him to provide clients with unique insight at all stages of representation, including risk management issues and strategies to improve best practices for individuals and businesses.

Prior Experience
- Began career practicing exclusively as a criminal prosecutor for a decade trying the most intricate, serious and challenging felony cases in the state of Ohio.
- Transitioned to civil practice and worked for the largest law firms in the area litigating disputes in the areas of commercial law, real estate, product liability, employment, professional liability, probate, securities, and criminal law. This includes matters related to regulatory matters, trusts, employer liability, personal injury, trade secrets, non-compete agreements, §1983, FDCPA, recourse liability, receivership, libel and slander.
- Represented 30 clients listed in the Fortune 500 throughout all phases of litigation.
- Fostered regulatory adherence and provided guidance to clients regarding contractual, employment, and tax obligations.
- Provided strategic advice and counsel to corporate and privately held clients regarding employment obligations and actions, commercial transactions, product recalls, regulatory responses, contract negotiations and business formation.
- Advised regarding regulatory adherence by conducting risk management assessments and provided recommendations to clients.
- At the request of a few small business clients, Matt expanded his practice to include transactional work including review and negotiation of real estate transactions, contracts, corporate finance agreements, business formation, and employment agreements.
- At Golish Law, we know that some matters and cases are beyond our expertise and for that reason we consistently refer out more clients to other attorneys than we retain.
